Hello gorgeous, how are yah? Its that time of the week again (one of my faves!) and so kick back, relax and check out my recommendation to what you should drink to start your weekend off the right way!
The Black Russian
ice cubes 45ml vodka 30ml Kahlua
Half fill a tumbler with ice-cubes. Add vodka then the Kahlua, stir. Enjoy with Rufus Wainwrights album 'Want Two' playing in the background. Delightful.
I suffering from insomnia since Sunday, hence the lack of quality content this week. However to make-up for this please take a moment to enjoy one of my favourite songs in the whole wide world, the irony isn't wasted (cracking album, go and treat thyself if you don't already).
Daisy awoke on Tuesday simply ravenous. A staunch vegetarian she was surprised to discover that it was the smell of bacon being cooked by her brother downstairs that made her stomach growl so. Surely not, she thought, I can't be a ham-eating vegetarian, that's beyond a joke. She stumbled down stairs to the kitchen, trying to brush her tangled black hair out of her eyes. 'Mornin' 'Hey' said Ruben. Daisy peered into the pan, the cooking meat looked revolting. But there was still a delicious smell in the air,she absentmindedly sniffed the air trying to catch the source. 'There it is!' 'What?' said Ruben as he turned the bacon over. Daisy stood holding the raw bacon 'it smells so good!' Ruben looked surprised 'Its raw. Its meat. What happened to all your 'meat is murder' and 'you're eating something as intelligent as dog Ruben?' Have you crossed over to the dark side while you were sleeping?' 'No its just that, it smells so delicious!' Daisy starts to pull out the raw meat from the pack to better smell it, she licks it. 'Daisy, that's disgusting, don't lick it raw, other people have to eat it! Give it here' 'No' 'Give it' 'No Ruben' 'Right that it, Give. It'. Ruben tears it from his sisters grasp. 'N...' The rest of Daisy's words get tangled up in a snarl. There is a faint popping sound in the kitchen. Ruben stands holding the crushed packet of bacon, the colour draining from his face. Growling at him, in her 'Grumpy but Gorgeous' pajamas, was his sister who looked like an black fluffy version of Wiley Coyote. 'Give me the BACON!' shouted Daisy.
(the view from my flat last winter) Hello! How the devil are yah?
I've been think about what we should do in winter, as everywhere I look it seems that all we are supposed to be doing is:shopping for Christmas or worrying about Christmas or once the festivities are over try and lose weight/detox. Come on! There's a fabulous world out there! There has to be better things out there than shopping or dieting until the weather pics up!
Here are some of my pics for winter:
Enjoy a foreign film at the Film House, which is currently having a French Film Festival. Yippee!
Have a midweek comedy night at home, invite your all your friends. Ask them to bring their favourite comedy DVD, Eddie Izzard's 'Glorious' is my absolute favourite to watch!
Leave the house. Yes, really. Go for a walk along the Water of Leith and just enjoy how beautiful everything is. You can even feed the ducks!
Go to the library and check out their audio book collection and have a listen to some fantastic reads while enjoying a hot bath (Glass of wine optional). Roald Dahl's shorter works like 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar' are the perfect bath time accompaniments.
Go and see some live music-Whistle Binkies and Ark regularly have live bands to treat your ears with or if you are feeling flush go see your favourite band. I'm desperate to see Modest Mouse (Glasgow 10th Dec if anyone else is a fan).
Bake yourself some treats and invite your mates round to enjoy your delicious goodies!
Join a book group, I recently went to my first book group meeting this month and I loved it! Lovely interesting people and you end up trying new reads that you would have never considered before.
Try a new gym class, don't try the same old aerobics I mean try something mental. I'm super keen to try a pole dancing class, I think it will be hilarious as well as fun!
Make an effort to see your favourite people, don't hibernate in front of the TV and pray for spring.
Treat yourself to new gloves/hat/scarf, in bright colours so you will be warm, stylish and all cheery. Whats not to like?
Make 'hot' food, I mean like Indian, Mexican, stuff with heat! God i'm drooling a bit just thinking of curry....mmmm.
I'm an Edinburgh based writer with a love of horror novels in addition to all other books, fashion, film, music and style. I like tea, being an optimist and Cher.
